ABOUT RORY SHEPPARD
What I’ve Learned Along the Way
I’m Rory Sheppard. For almost four decades, my work has involved leading teams, making decisions, and learning alongside others.
One thing I’ve come to appreciate is that experience is valuable, but it doesn’t mean we have all the answers. There’s always something more to learn, another perspective worth considering, or a better question to ask.
Today, I write, speak, teach, and coach because I want to share what I’ve found useful, continue learning from others, and help people take meaningful steps forward.
Whether you’ve come here through a book, a conversation, an event, or a shared interest, I hope you’ll find something worth considering and putting to use.

A Career That Kept Me Learning
Over the years, I’ve had the opportunity to serve in leadership and executive roles with organizations including SBC Communications(AT&T), H-E-B, and Whataburger. Each brought different people, challenges, and opportunities to learn.
The industries and responsibilities have varied, but some lessons have remained remarkably consistent: listen carefully, ask better questions, understand what matters, and recognize that people accomplish more when they’re working toward something meaningful together.
Those experiences eventually led me to partner with business owners, executive teams, and nonprofit leaders as they work through their own opportunities and challenges.
Experience has helped me recognize patterns, ask better questions, and see possibilities that might otherwise be overlooked. It’s a perspective I now bring to my work with business owners, leaders, and organizations.
Faith, Family, and Community
My faith is my foundation. It shapes how I think about people, responsibility, and service. My family reminds me that leadership isn’t limited to what happens at work. It shows up in how we treat one another, honor our commitments, and invest in the people around us.
Over time, I’ve come to believe that strong communities are built from the inside out—through people of faith and character, strong marriages and families, thriving businesses, and churches and nonprofits committed to serving others.
These aren’t separate concerns to me. They’re connected. The strength of one contributes to the strength of the others.
That perspective shapes the questions I ask, the relationships I value, and the work I choose to do.
What You Can Expect From Me
In my writing, speaking, and work with others, I aim to do three things:
Listen and Learn
Understand people and their circumstances before offering perspective.
Make Ideas Useful
Connect learning and experience with practical application.
Connect People and Ideas
Recognize that relationships and different perspectives often create opportunities we wouldn’t discover alone.
